Be Careful Where You Purchase Essential Oil Products!

France often exports over 5 times the amount of lavender oil than it produces. Many oils are cut with linalyl acetate, propylene glycol, Dep, or alcohols. Cutting oils completely changes their chemical makeup and removes most of their therapeutic properties. Some companies use gas chromatography (does not induce cutting), and/or Mass Spec Analysis for quality analysis. Proctor & Gamble uses twice as much essential oil as is produced in the entire world, because the oils are generously cut and diluted.

The current grading system for essential oils is: Grade A: Therapeutic Quality, Grade B: Perfume & Cosmetic Quality, and Grade C: Industrial Quality for smell only.

Most essential oil companies use non-organic fertilizers and pesticides on their fields to increase "yield", however, these chemicals can be found in the final product as well. In addition, many companies distill their plants at very high temperatures for less time. This saves the company money and increases the amount of oil that is produced in a given period of time. The problem with this, is that the quality and therapeutic attributes of the oils can be nearly non-existant. For the best success and therapeutic properties, Purchase ONLY organic, therapeutic-grade essential oils that are distilled at the lowest temperature possible for longer periods of time.

I personally prefer the Young Living oils and products. In fact, Young Living is the ONLY essential oil company I can trust 100%, due to their history of providing only the purest essential oils. The company is owned and operated by Dr. Gary Young, who has had extensive training and experience in the art of growing, picking and distilling essential oils. His operation is precise, right down to the correct time of day to pick a plant and what temperature and length of time to distill the plant to extract the oils. This produces the best quality oil possible, without losing any of the therapeutic benefits in the process.

  • How to Order the Highest Quality Essential Oils

    1. Go to the Young Living Order Page: Young Living Orders

    2. When asked to enter a Referral Member Number, enter 707145 (Cheryl Sutor).

    3. Then, search through the product catalog and place your order.

If you are just getting started in using essential oils, I highly recommend you start with the Essential 7 Kit. These are the most commonly used oils, and they cover a broad range of applications.

    One of My Personal Stories...

"On several occasions, I thought I would be "cheap" and purchase oils at the health food store. I quickly found that those oils from the health food stores just don't work therapeutically. One specific example: When I first began to trim horse's hooves, the torque on my hands and wrists from the hoof knives immediately caused me to have carpal tunnel symptoms. My hands and wrists hurt, and every night while I slept they would swell up and turn numb. I was about ready to give up on this career.

I began using Young Living's Cypress oil on my wrists (known for optimizing circulation), and I would immediately feel "pins and needles" upon application, and circulation would return. However, I thought I would save $5 by purchasing Cypress oil at the health food store, but instead I ended up spending more! I went through 3 different types of Cypress oil made by different companies, that were claimed to be "organic" and "therapeutic", and the oils had absolutely no effect other than aromatherapy. And I don't particularly like the smell of Cypress for aromatherapy anyway! I wanted it's therapeutic properties.

So, I learned my lesson... never buy essential oils from any company except Young Living. My hands and wrists no longer have any swelling or circulation problems, even with triple the work I initially had. Without Young Living, I would not have been able to continue with this career!"

    The Dangers of Adulterated Oils

Adulterated oils that are cut with synthetic extenders can be very detrimental, causing rashes, burning, and skin irritations.

One woman who had heard of the ability of lavender oil to heal burns used "lavender oil" purchased from a local health food store when she spilled boiling water on her arm. But the pain intensified and the burn worsened, so she later complained that lavender oil was worthless for healing burns. When her "lavender" was analyzed, it was found to be lavandin, the hybrid lavender that is chemically very different from pure Lavandula angustifolia. Lavandin contains high levels of camphor (12-18 percent) and can itself burn the skin. In contrast, true lavender contains virtually no camphor and has burn-healing agents not found in lavandin.

Petrochemical solvents, such diprogylene glycol and diethylphthalate, can all cause allergic reactions, besides being devoid of any therapeutic value. "Nature-identical" essential oils which is a structured essential oil that has been chemically duplicated using 5 to 15 of the essential oil's chemical compounds in synthetic form, can produce unwanted side effects or toxicities.

    Why is Young Living Better?

  • Young Living's line of pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils and unique essential oil blends are sourced from the world’s finest plants. Our oils are not diluted with chemical and synthetic additives and are carefully prepared to maintain plant integrity. This commitment to purity makes Young Living’s essential oils the world’s premium essential oil line.

  • Young Living farms on land that has not been broken into in 32 years with fresh mountain water for irrigation. No plows are used in these fields as they throw off pollutants; instead, teams of horses are used and goats do the weeding. And this is only a small part of ensuring purity here.

  • Only the finest non-hybrid seeds and plant starts are selected. These seeds and starts are nurtured to produce pure, organic herbs that will yield the highest quality essential oils, unparalleled anywhere in the world.

  • Mineral-rich, pristine water from the mountains irrigates each plant—grown in rich virgin soil, free from contaminants (herbicides, pesticides and insecticides).

  • When the crops reach their highest frequency peak is when they are cut and distilled right away while still fresh.

  • Young Living’s essential oils are therapeutic-grade and certified AFNOR/ISO Standard for their therapeutic-grade value.

  • An essential oil with a 43% lanlyl acetate is relatively a good quality oil…Young Living oils have reached an outstanding high of 72% lanlyl acetate.

  • All Young Living products are laboratory tested for high quality. Each batch of Young Living essential oils must pass 5 different analysis before going onto the market. Extensive research went into each product and only the finest ingredients were selected.

  • Young Living is one of the world's leaders in the cultivation, distillation, and production of organically grown, guaranteed pure essential oils.

  • Young Living headed and founded by D. Gary Young, N.D., one of North America's foremost authorities on essential oils. Young Living is the first company to combine guaranteed pure essential oils with dietary supplements.

    Comments From Well-Respected Professionals

"Young Living has united modern stainless steel technology (to prevent chemical reactions of oils to metal) with Old-World gentle distilling techniques to create full-bodied essential oils that are far different from what we normally see."

    – James Kababick, Director
    Flora Research (Independent analytical lab)
Director of one of the larges independent labs
for chemical analysis of essential oils.

"Young Living's essential oils are the finest I have yet analyzed. I gave their lavender oil my highest rating - 5 stars. It scored high in desired esters and low in the oxygenated compounds and ketones that can give the oil a bad-smelling, astringent quality. D. Gary Young N.D.'s uncompromising attention to quality as well as his never-ending pursuit of perfection are what make Young Living's essential oils so very different from many commonly available aromatherapy products."

"At Young Living Essential Oils, we provide answers to those who are seeking truth. To our commitment to grow, distill, manufacture and market the highest quality products in the world, we're bringing better health, education, joy and prosperity to people everywhere—improving longevity, and increasing the quality of life."

"At Young Living, we are committed to producing and selling the finest therapeutic-grade essential oils in the world. Our goal is to educate the public on the differences between pure therapeutic-grade oils and synthetic perfume or flavoring oils, which today are often labeled and sold as 'pure' essential oils."

    ~D. Gary Young

How's the Quality of Your Oils?

If Your Supplier is NOT Young Living, be sure to ask these questions to make sure you are getting the highest quality therapeutic-grade essential oils:

  • Are the fragrances subtle, rich, organic, and delicate? Do they "feel" natural?
  • Do the fragrances of your oils vary from batch to batch as an indication that they are pure and painstakingly distilled in small batches rather than industrially processed on a large scale?
  • Does your supplier send each batch of essential oils it receives through up to five different analyses before it is released?
  • Are these tests performed by independent labs?
  • Does your supplier grow and distill its own organically grown herbs? Are the distillation facilities part of the farm where the herbs are grown so they are freshly distilled, maintaining their potency?
  • Does you supplier use a low pressure and low temperature to distill essential oils and preserve all of their fragile chemical constituents? Are the distillation cookers fabricated from costly stainless steel alloys to reduce the likelihood of the oils chemically reacting with metal?
  • Does your supplier have representatives traveling worldwide to personally inspect the fields and distilleries where the herbs are grown and distilled?
  • Do they scrutinize the facilities to check that no synthetic chemicals are being used in any of these processes?
